Site Sensitivities: Countryside

Water Leys

The scheme is a modern vernacular farmstead, rooted in centuries of agricultural evolution. With external walls of rammed earth, a private dwelling anchoring a small holding farmstead comprising of; farmhouse, its barn and a garaging/annexe outbuilding.

An earthy and natural palette of proposed materials links the linear stratification of rammed earth with the ridge-and-furrow landscape. A design with an ancient quality, the proposal has a haptic aesthetic to offer sensory sophistication.

Driven by a passion for a regenerative agricultural landscape, the proposal has been informed by history and developed through an in-depth site analysis and character study of the area.

“The panel responded very positively to the scheme, praising its strong landscape-led approach, compelling narrative, and well-resolved detailing. The panel felt the aspiration for a haptic and sensory design approach made the scheme exceptional”
